The Iraqi Center for Supporting Freedom of Speech (Rights), recorded 33 violations against Iraqi journalists during the first half of this year, distributed on various issues, including a civilian activist sentenced to six years in jail, a political analyst was arrested, journalists detained and three satellite channels closed, two in Kurdistan and one in Baghdad.
They also recorded beatings on satellite channel’s staff while covering the opening of a political party headquarters in Anbar province, and in the coverage the activities of Salahaddin University, even an attack that included beating the head of an information institution for the director of the same institution, and seven prosecutions and detention of journalists by security forces, two of them in Baghdad, As well as storming the house of a journalist in Najaf and attacking a television team in Diwaniyah, and storming the house of a journalist in Najaf and attacking a television team in Diwaniyah, in addition to the Prosecute satellite reporters on previous reports, In addition to threats a journalists and bloggers because of their comments on the decisions and positions issued by parliamentarians and officials in the government.
The Iraqi Center (Rights) has documented a number of lawsuits filed by government institutions, The most prominent of which is the establishment of a lawsuit by Susan Mohammed Jawad, director general of the Ministry of Agriculture right director of the satellite channel Ahmed Salim al-Saadi, and the news report Laith al-Jazairi, In addition to the threat of a television reporter in Karbala by a candidate in the Fatah alliance, to file a lawsuit because the channel for television reports on election propaganda and the issuance of a warrant for the theft of government files on Hossam al-Kaabi correspondent NRT Arab in Najaf following a complaint filed by the administration of Najaf airport, as well as two officials in Karbala filed an issue against the correspondent of the same channel in the province following the reports of television related to the local affairs.
The Iraqi Center (Rights) has also received several reports from bloggers who have been subjected to tribal harassment on the basis of their views on social networking sites, but their names expose their lives to danger.
While the Iraqi Center (Rights) deplores these violations that restrict the work of journalists, and calls on the government to direct its staff and members of the security forces to cooperate with journalists and respect their work according to the constitution and the law.
