Rights denounces arrest warrant issued by the Iraqi judiciary against the media Hashem al – Aqabi

The Iraqi Center for Supporting Freedom of Speech (Rights) deplores the actions of the judiciary by prosecuting journalist Hashem al-Aqabi, after highlighting issues related to legal issues, restricting the work of journalists in expressing their opinion.

The Iraqi Center for Supporting Freedom of Speech (Rights) provides a legal defense team to inform Hashem al-Aqabi to face the lawsuit brought before him by the judiciary. And hopes the Supreme Judicial Council to withdraw his complaint against al-'Aqabi in respect of the role of journalists and the media in establishing the democratic system in the country.

Al-Karkh investigation court issued an arrest warrant against the journalist Hashem al-Aqabi for the crime of insulting the judiciary through social networking sites.

"The Karkh investigation court issued an arrest warrant for Hashem al-Aqabi in accordance with law 226 of the Iraqi Penal Code," said Judge Abdul Sattar Birekdar, spokesman for the Supreme Judicial Council.

“The arrest warrant was issued for the crime of insulting the judiciary and disseminating lies through social media, and INTERPOL will be approached to arrest him and bring him to trial”. Birekdar added that
