Rights Preventing demonstrators from entering Tahrir Square is an unacceptable attempt to suppress peaceful protests

  27/07/2018 07:07         Statement         139

The Iraqi Center for Supporting Freedom of Speech (Rights) rejects the practices used by the security forces on Friday (27-7-2018) with the citizens who were demonstrating in Tahrir Square in center of Baghdad, while preventing the entry of live TV channels to cover these protests. Unknown.
While the Iraqi Center (Rights) deplores the attempt to prevent the expression of opinion through peaceful demonstrations, it demands the Commander d. Haidar al-Abadi, and the commander of Baghdad operations, Lieutenant General Jalil al-Rubaie, to allow the demonstrators to express their discontent about the deterioration of the service reality in the country.
The Iraqi Center (Rights) is using this method as an unacceptable attempt to suppress peaceful protests and an obstacle to listening to the citizens' demands, and warns of a dangerous precedent that worries many who contributed to the existence of the current democratic system.
