The Rights Center for Freedom of Expression Support calls on the House of Representatives to repeal the draft law on freedom of expression, assembly and peaceful demonstration, which was read first at the official meeting on Monday (24-6-2019), because it constitutes a clear violation of the Constitution, while the Center is preparing this law to legitimize the official dictatorship and suppression of freedoms, and the Center confirms that the current draft law limits the freedoms that are supposed to be developed to protect them.
While the Rights Center rejects the draft law on freedom of expression, assembly and peaceful demonstration, he calls on the President of the Republic to protect the Constitution from breaking the House of Representatives by passing laws that restrict freedoms.
The Rights Center believes that the problem in project of the Freedom of expression, Assembly and Peaceful Demonstration " is that it contains a large number of items that do not comply with the Constitution and it also does not comply with the obligations of the Iraqi state towards the international agreements it has signed, thus weakening the capacity of these laws to safeguard the freedoms that have been laid down primarily for their preservation.
According to the Rights Center, most articles of the draft Freedom of Expression, Assembly and Peaceful Demonstration include excessive ambiguity and direct conflict with the principles contained in the Iraqi Constitution or the International Covenant, leading to an attack on civil liberties in Iraq.
