The Iraqi Center for Supporting Freedom of Speech welcomes the decision of the judiciary to release activist Bassem Khashan

The Iraqi Center welcomed on Tuesday the decision of the Iraqi judiciary to release the civil activist, Bassem Khashan. from Al- Muthanna province.

The center said in a statement that “the decision to release the activist Basem Khashan came by his confidence in the Iraqi judiciary, and the supports of freedom Speech and to defend the rights of citizens guaranteed by the Constitution”.

The Federal Court of Cassation considered two petitions concerning the activist Basem Khashan” a Judge Abdul Sattar Birqdar, spokesman for the High Judicial Council.

Al- Muthanna Criminal Court had sentenced Hassan to three years' imprisonment for two cases. "he added.

He pointed out that "the Court of Cassation decided to release the accused in one of the cases for lack of evidence and decided to revoke the other decision and retrial in order to complete the investigations."

On 9/2/2018, the Iraqi Center for Supporting Freedom of Speech called on Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi and the Al-Muthanna Provincial Council to release the civilian activist in the name of Khazal Khashan.

The Iraqi Center condemned Al- Muthanna Provincial Council for prosecuting citizens of corruption files and called on the council to withdraw the case against Khashan.

The Iraqi Center asked the Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi to "issue a special amnesty for the activist, especially as he always protects defenders of reform."
